Should be interesting, I put an '84 4X4 dash in my 620. It was discussed on here a year ago and a 280 Z dash was also mentioned but not tried. What motor are you putting in to get 275 hp out of 'cause the L20B is only good for a little over half of that. Turbo'd it might approach that much, but in order to keep it together so much would have to be spent on it that an engine transplant would be cheaper.

Hi Datzenmike
well the block i have is a z24 with a diesel crank, carrillo rods, ( at the shop as we speak)  punched out 30 over, decked, assy, bal w/ flywheel lighten to spin faster, center force clutch I think stage 2, the head I'm doing my self at work I got stainlesssteal valves isky springs titaniun seats, ported and all the bells and whisles  I have two SU carbs .
and my I have a coil for each spark plug like the GM 8.1 motor .
there's more I have it down on paper .
I have to thank steve at sunrise motors for some of the spec's i needed.
if youlike I could pass on the spec's
OH the motor should spin over 8 thou rpms  two years ago a motor let go at 10.4 rpm
a transplant would take the fun out of building my GRX motor. thanks bert.

My mistake Embarrassed you seem to have it together. You will be running a turbo or s/c to get those numbers, right? The factory found that the L head would support about 200hp and so developed a twin cam 16 V head that would fit all L series and probably the Z series as well. The LZ14B made about 200 hp at 8,000 and 236 at 11,000 normally aspirated. Below is the LZ20B...

I don't have the hp for the normally aspirated motor but the turbo LZ20B was better than 550.
Here is the 16 V head for it...

Beautiful isn't it? Almost unlimited breathing, totally unlimited with a turbo. This head design led to the FJ series and is similar to the KA24DE head too.

Yeah, post your spec sheet, bet it's good reading.

I got a question? How much for the build? What if I want a regular rebuild on a l20b maybe with forged pistons and a mild port on the head. I could just leave the engine there....  Thanks! Mota...

It's a Nissan LZ twin cam 16V head developed for use on L and Z series motors and should not be confused with the OS Giken head which is some what similar.

Datsun LZ  twin cam heads were developed in the power hungry, early 1970's. The LZ head was designed to give a power boost to the tried, tested and incredibly successful Datsun L series engines. The obvious way to increase output of the very strong L series bottom end was to improve its breathing.

The LZ engine was to form the basis of legends in many forms of motor sports, due to its superior design and versatility. Using the L series bottom end, allowed it to be used in so many different capacity variations. Crankshaft strokes available for different variations of the L and Z series engines that could be used with the LZ head are : -

59.9 mm L13,  66 mm L14,  73.7 mm L16,  78 mm L18,  86 mm L20B,  89mm Z22,  92 mm Z24. Bore sizes can be varied from 83 mm to 90 mm. This allowed the engine to be raced in most capacity categories including : -

  • The PB110 1600 cc Sunny Excellent  and TS210 in Japan in 1973

  •  Formula Pacific as a 1600 engine with a 87.8mm bore

  • 1800cc in the 710SSS rally cars

  • As a 2 litre in the group 4 A10 rally cars

  •  2.3 litre? capacity in an Australian 910 Bluebird of Geoff Portman.

  • 2 litre turbo in the Japanese group 5 Silhouette (sports sedan) series.

  • At Le Mans in the 24 hour race in a March 83G and 85G chassis. as well as many other vehicles.
