New members should leave some kind of introduction post, right?
I have played with VW (the aircooled ones) for years. I wanted to go a new direction and play with some early Japanese iron. One of my friends is very into the 1200 and 520 Pickup. I decided on a Datsun 411 and went looking. I found a bamboo tan '66, 411, 1300 wagon in quite good condition. First on my list is cleaning this thing up so I will have some questions on where to get some minor parts. At the top of my list is the bottom/right side windshield trim and right side wiper arm before I replace the cracked windshield. Right now I am shopping for wheels and tires. What is on the car was not even safe to drive it home (but I did.) What I have in mind is American Racing Estrella (type 95) in the 13 inch size and a set of 165/80R13 tires. I'm not looking to make a hot rod out of this car, just a nice driver with my own twist on things. I must say, this old Datsun drives quite nice (except that one bias tire on the left front corner gets a bit dicey on the freeway.) Thanx for listening, Paul |

No, but I know which ones (!) you are talking about. It was on Portland Craigslist but I think Salem was right. I wanted something driveable, (tow bills are expensive and I don't have enough truck to tow a 2100 lb. car.)
There was also a 411 sedan posted on Seattle Craigslist for a while that I looked at. A red one with a white stripe down the side (named Buddy.) It was quite original and an SSS model. But it had body cancer issues. Neither front fender was attached at the bottom rear corner anymore. I could reach up next to the bottom drip rail and touch the rear door sill on one side ![]() The 411 wagon I found was owned by a young man in north King County. It was advertised in the Little Nickel. He believed it had 192,000 original miles on it but after looking at it I'm pretty sure has 92,000 original miles. It appears to be a Seattle area car from the nature of the wear and tear. It has a number of minor bumps around the body but the trim survived. It is still sporting its factory Bamboo tan paint job and with a bit of rubbing it seems to shine up pretty well. So far I haven't found a bolt on the car that resists removal or any body rust. I'll get some pictures up on a temporary web site real soon, perhaps by tonight. I'll let the list know when I do ![]() |

I wanted to let the members know that the American Racing Estrella wheels will not fit the 411. In fact, no 13 inch wheel that is 5 1/2 inches wide and close to the stock offset (+38 stock, +35 on the Estrella) will clear the upper control arm. If I could only find some 13x4.5 inch wheels with about a +35 offset...
I put a new P165/80R13 tires on the original wheels for now. I also just remembered something interesting about my 411. When I got it it had an old Northwest Datsun Enthusiasts license plate frame on the front. Perhaps it used to belong to a member? |

That's in great shape! I'm not much of a fan of the style, but I LOVE wagons!!! I'd own one just because it was a wagon! :)
I've towed 521's and 510's behind my wifes 521 and here '96 Grand Caravan tows them very nicely...and with a lot more comfort than my old '77 Chev 4x4! I wouldn't pull one down the highway with the 521, but to move it across town...I've pulled each type in excess of 30 miles on surface streets. |
