Well, here I go...
Last couple of weeks I've been stripping my interior and preping the floor of my `72 to apply some POR 15 Rust prventative paint.  I bought the a starter kit from ebay.

I'm going to try to post the pictures I've been taking to show the progress.

I hated my interior so much I ddin't even bother taking a before picture.

Since I had already removed most of the seat brackets, I decided to completely remove the rest.

When I removed the interior and started to rough up the paint and rust, I found a tear in the passenger floor board that was sealed with silicon and a metal gasket?  so I cleaned it up, Jacked up on the floorboard, and hammered the edges down and welded it up.

Once I was done with the holes I moved on to something a bit bigger...The transmission tunnel in the floor pan was really mangled by the previous owner.  Remembering back when I found the pickup it was parked under a little shed that the wind had blown down.  And when I got it home I found that the previous owner had taken a coffee can, cut the top and bottom out, then sliced it down the side.  He used it to make an exhaust pipe clamp, he wrapped it aound the pipe and took two hose clamps and clamped it down.  I remember how I thought the guy was really resourceful.  Well, my ideas on this guys craftyness has completely changed.  He was a cheap arse, who shouldn't of been allowed to work on vehicles.  Because (if you noticed in the first picture of this project post) the transmission tunnel was hacked horribly, it was either cut or cracked down the sides of the tunnel right where the shifter sticks up.then partially welded, and partially siliconed.  I pondered what would be the best way to fix this, structurally and cosmetically.  And the answer was remove the crap metal and replace with one solid piece.

This was a very big undertaking for me.  Talk about being committed to the end.  So in the next couple of nights I was able to make a new tunnel.
But first here is the what I cut out.

So now that I have this huge hole in the floor of pickup I had to make a new tranny tunnel.  So the first thing was to make a jig that I could bend the metal around.  I went to Home Depot, bought a rasp, took a scrap piece of 4"x4" post and started to shave the an edge down to accomodate the bend of the hump.

Maybe when I'm finally done with the prep work I can actually paint it.  I also plan to put herculiner over the POR 15 to make for a nice durable rough finish.  This way when I get water in the cab, I won't have to worry.  You did notice the transfer case shifter right?

Looks good so far...I should be getting my order of POR15 this evening. I'll be able to start the interior and engine bay after I get some more media for my sandblaster.

I'll try to get the name or pic of the bag.  I've got several of them out in the shed, but they may be buried.....might be a day or so.

Have you checked into...or even heard of Rust Doctor?  I compared it to the POR products and went with it for several reasons.  Not that POR 15 is bad at all, but I'd highly suggest a respirator if you're doing it in a closed area.

Well I plan to be in the open when I finally paint, thanks for the advice mklotz.  And no I haven't heard of Rust doctor?  Why is it better???

Its funny you mention that about the cup holders, I was wanting to do something like that, maybe out of some thin diamond plate.  That would be cool!!!

In case you were wondering, this is where I got my metal to make the tunnel...a perfectly straight `79 hood.  Worked for me!

It took along time to trim and cut and trim and grind until I was ready to tack weld it into place.

Mklotz, I googled the Rust Doctor last night, <---you know that kinda sounds dirty!  Anyway looks like some good stuff.  So how long ago did you apply your rust doctor, and are completely satisfied?
