I noticed today that my brake master cylinder is leaking. I am on the prowl for a set of 280zx struts and brakes, But I am obviously going to have to go ahead and get a master cyl. Should I get a 510 cylinder or go ahead and get a 280zx cylinder... It may be quite a while before I find a set of 280zx struts. They are not very common around here. I am way too cheap to pay the prices I have seen them on the forums. If I wait a few months, I can find a whole 280zx for $100-$200. Anyway, which master cylinder should I buy? Thanks.

I highly recommend against buying a cheapo rebuilt master cylinder from a discount parts store.
There was a guy selling NOS 79-81 280ZX master cylinders. This is the one that will bolt up to the 510 firewall. This is for 4 wheel disc brakes though. |

I have drums in the rear. And dont plan on changing them. I have only seen one way to swap a wagon to rear discs... Wilwoods. They cost twice what I paid for the car!

I have a stock master in my car, my brakes are kinda f**ked up though, my master sticks and my rear drums drag even though I've never adjusted them. I have 85 200sx brakes in the front and stock in the rear.

rebuilt master cyl can be kind of hard to find for a 510. Most places were giving me a run around, saying they don't make em any more and that in some cases it would cost like $200!
I think I ended up having a friend with connections call a local part distributor and managed to "find one" that he could order for $105. So I guess look around, because they are out there.. I think some places might charge for a core. If you are having any trouble just post and I can try and find who made the one I bought.. |

Gen I heard the same thing
The one jeff has is a used one that I gave him as a trade for some front timming covers. I didnt really want to give it away cause I had the same run around for the 510 brake master with the output(close together). The prt store wanted a outragous amount of money for a jap made unit. I got mine years agao from Bap Geon and bought 2 new ones. 1 each of both kinds. I hear Lorco gets new ones in Canada but not positive Or mayb the new replacement ones are now more affordable(made in taiwan). So get them while you can and maybe a spare. ![]() |

I'll get a hold of my friend and ask what company made the one in my car. It looks exactly like the factory part. |
