Is it the Tecate and Vicodin or are there 2 different types of oil pans for the L motors?

I have 3 pans and one seems deeper towards the front ???

There are far more than 3 types. Each chassis used a different type, but the most radical difference is the '78-79 510 with the front sump (so far forward teh dipstick had to be relocated). There are rear sump, center sump, and front sump pans of varying depths. It's all about suspension clearance. The pan was designed around the car, not the other way around.

There was even a marine/industrial sump.

One question. If you change the oil pan, sump and pick-up tube, can you convert a rear to a front? I have a '78 620 and a spare L20B from an '80 720 which has a huge oil pan with rear sump. I would like to be able to use this other motor someday.
