Hello all.

I have a quick question. This week i had some time off and started stripping the rust and paint off my 510. I intend on swapping an SR20DET.  With this added power is it necessary to stitch weld all the seams, install a roll cage or add additional bracing to the body and frame. Im want to get all the body work done before rolling it into the paint booth. Nothing would suck more than having to grind and weld on a freshly painted car.

Respectfully

I have an sr 510 posted under rack and sr coversion. So I've read up on it to, depending on how much power you plan on pushing through it. I wouldn't seam weld it, the stress just moves to different points of the chassy. Baz said with seat metal modes the chassy can handle 650hp, I wouldn't recomend drag racing with slicks. In my car, for the 2 days I drove it, with a stock rear end, no problems. Haha well no drive train problems. I gotta go brb

Seam welding and putting in a cage will help the chassis stiffness. i dont think it would be "necesary" but it wouldnt be such a bad idea.

There's a decent starting place for cages in the Bob Waar "How To Modify..." book. Shows dimensions and mounting point details. I used it as a jumping off point for the cage I did. It's a good idea for safety AND does alot for stiffness.

Just remember for roll cages, the strongest shape is a triangle. So that being said, triangulate everything. Also if you dont run a "halo" always put a cross bar and a diagonal bar connecting your a-pillars. And since there is tons of room, i would run one under the dash as well.
