Hello ALL Just popped in to say hello. New to this forum. After 6 years I finally purchased a 510. Iv had an SR20DET blacktop sitting in my garage along with a couple thousand dollars worth of suspension, drivetrain and body parts for a 510. It took that long to find one i was satisfied with. So today starts a new project. Iv already gleaned alot of info from this site. Thanks sofar to everyone. Respectfully BM2 Wester USCG Station Ponce De Leon Inlet |

Wow, that's the first time I've seen someone put the Military rank in their name on a civilian board (I myself was Navy- got out in '03).
Welcome! I'm sure that there aren't a whole lot of Datsuns down in Florida. When I was stationed in Orlando (in 1993) there weren't many then. While this board does cater mostly to folks up here in the NW we have folks from all over. A few from the South, but I doubt any are quite as far SE as you! |

Thanks for the replys. Ya Iv been in the Coast Guard for about 5 years now, adding my rank to my name has become second nature. I will post pics as soon as i can. I was stationed in alaska for the last 4 years and visited Seattle frequently. I could not imagine the number of 510's i saw. When I mention a datusn 510 i get blank stares down here. I have a kit for the suspension components. I just need to sort out the struts/coilover situation. The interior is completly shot so I also have to source out carpet and dash parts. Hopedully im not the only 510 fanatic in FLorida, it could get lonely. THanks again and ill post pics when i can find my camera

I wish I had gotten the chance to get the MLB ride when I was in Ketchikan in 2001 (Part of Northern Edge '01). Unfortunately all the Khakis and BMs (sorry, I was an Engineman) took up the slots. Chasing a 47' with a 27' Navy Patrol boat (with no seats or padding) was not pleasant.

You had to be in one of the seafaring services to get that one. While sometimes the Navy and Coast Guard don't get along my unit worked hand-in-hand with Coasties many times. I respect those guys- they put themselves in far more personal danger helping civilians than most military folks would.
MLB: Motor Life Boat BM: Boatswain's Mate (they claim to be the Sailor's Sailors. In the Nav they chip and paint and handle lines (ropes). Also are the ones that "Drive" the boats. Khakis: Officers and Chief Petty Officers (E-7 rank and above. Name refers to their uniforms). A 47' is a 47-foot MLB (see above). |

Hello This is a 47' MLB. My job is to drive this boat into any sea and weather conditions to RESCUE boaters in distress. These boats are capable of surving a rollover with re-righting in 7 to 11 seconds, 30 foot seas 20 foot breaking surf 50 feet combined bar surf conditions, winds in excess of 50 knots (55.3 MPH) I trust my life to the boat and my crew. The navy is a great help to the Coast Guard, The navy has a HUGE buget and when their ships reach middle age they are transferred to the Coast Guard. I spent 4 years stationed on the Coast GUard Cutter Acushnet in Ketchikan alaska. THat ship was given to the CG in 1944. She is the second oldest ship on the CG fleet. Thanks for the respect, I really appreciate it, I cant count the number of times iv rescued people who were completly ignorant of how dangerous their situation had become and then had the balls to complain about how long we took, or how i almost damaged their multi million dollar yacht making an approach in 20 foot seas. Thank you.

Welcome Wester, I'm not a club member here, but of the 510 Club of BC. I've got nothing but repect for the Coast Guard, you wouldn't catch me out in the weather you guys typically see! The knowledge level here is great, you'll get good information here. You could also try the 510 Club of BC's website at www.the510realm.com. Cheers! |

Hehe yeah, I like nwde becaouse I only had to log in once, I get so pissed logging in 10 times a day, or even worse whn it takes me to long to type my reply......aaaahhhhh f**k.... Yeah I like the realm for the most part, you guys sure are going off on gas prices, maybe you guys should get a bigger army hahahahaha. Did you hear about Berzil they no longer use fosil fuel, ther cars run on alcohol derived from "sugar". Gm and ford even make cars that run off it. Anyways

The gas prices up here suck because of all the taxes in it. Figure it this way, price of gas up here tends to be about .80 cents more per US gallon than you dudes get, it's all extra taxes. Ethanol mixed gas is sold up here by a company named "MohawK", it's a little outfit, but, they sell a nice E85 94 octane mix that's hard to beat. Brazil moved that way about 10 years ago and they're starting to benefit now, takes that long to plant crops, harvest them, build the processing and mixing plants etc. It's all good and necesary I think in the long run. They want to use corn down your way, I think sugar beet might be a better idea. Who knows.

Isnt racing alcohol methanol? Corn alcohol is ethanol, it does raise the octane a bit but is less efficient and alcohol gets worse mileage than straight gasoline. I was from Iowa and I know corn, lol. The alcohol plant where I lived is sure liking the soon to be enacted law requiring ethanol use in gas, lol.
