What differance, if any, is there between the gearing of the stock 510 4 spd, and the later (77) 280Z 4 spd?

510 (sedan):
1st: 3.382:1 2nd: 2.013:1 3rd: 1.312:1 4th: 1.000:1 Reverse: 3.364:1 '77 280z: 1st: 3.321:1 2nd: 2.077:1 3rd: 1.308:1 4th: 1.000:1 reverse: 3.382:1 Otherwords, not a heck of a lot. The main difference in functionality is the larger transmission handles more torque. |

Is it a direct bolt up/length etc. of the stock?

Nope. The Z type (71-series, also used in trucks) are around 6" longer. The only later transmission that are the same length are the ones used from '75-79 in 610s, 710s, 200SXs and late 510s. These are the F4W63L transmission (vs the F4W63 in the original 510) Bolt pattern to the engine is the same.

What's odd is the S12 200SX uses the same transmission as the late 280ZX and 720 truck. FS5W71C. So does the 240SX, but the length is different. Dunno why. Different extension housing I guess.
