bullet Topic: Anyone heard of ASAIN carbs?
    Posted: 24 April 2003 at 5:22pm

Are they junk, OK, or indifferent?  The guy I got the $25 truck from last week also let me have the brand-new ASAIN carb that HE was gonna put in it, but as it runs with the Hitachi (and the fact that he wasn't putting any more effort on a truck with a noisy engine) it remained uninstalled.

It looks like it'd fit a L20B manifold, it's a 2BBL like the original but it's really tall.  I've heard of the name but never seen one.  Other than the base it looks nothing like a Weber or Hitachi.  I'll post a photo tonight if I remember.

It's possible I have the spelling off.  It's weird enough.  I should have taken the carb home before I picked up the truck, as it was loose but I just left it on the seat.  I'll look again and shoot pics once I get home.

Yup, I misspelled it.  it's AISAN.  Some pics:

Looks like it'll fit but it's quite tall.  I also can't figure out how the choke hooks up.  It's adjustable, but is it water based, like a cruddy Ford Holley?

Oh, nevermind- it won't fit.  I guess the Prior Owner was a bit duller than I thought- it's a TOYOTA carb.  Stock carb for a '68-71 1.9L Toy.

Guess it's eBay fodder.  It's nice and clean inside, a bit dusty outside.

A soup can? I've got one of those. How do i hook it up now? Stick the end of the fuel line through the side of the can and then what? Won't it run a little rich?

Can't believe everyone has a thing? for the Hitachi Carb...wow...both my son ('74 620, l-18 4 speed) and myself '73 620, brand new rebuild, mild cam, beautiful W53 head, Hooker header, 4 speed, etc..) we both get fantastic performance AND great gas mileage...(Ticklin 28-29 mpg on Freeway driving...not bad for stockers huh?...The carb takes a little messin with at first to get it "Dialed in", but after that,,it's smooth sailin....not arguing with any one...jus voicin' my opinion...and by the way...this site is the greatest...Bleach...thanks for all you do....

oh, thanks. What all do I do? Waste too much time online? hehe...

Well, when I got my truck my carb was messing up and needed a rebuild kit. I went with a Weber for simplicity and its been good ever since. Last time I checked I was getting 25mpg overall. Not sure about on the highway, but its probably what you got. That includes mostly city driving though. If I ever swap to a 4.11 rear I hope I gain at least 2 mpg or it won't be worth it.
