wow! The exhaust manifold is probably the hardest thing to make or have made. Looks good!

Thanks,  I still have to grind on it a little to make it pretty.  That and the intake manifold are going to be the most difficult.

I'd say exhaust manafold and turbo are the hardest parts about a turbo L. There are a lot of "kits" out there. Hard to say if you are actually buying something that works or crap. That and getting a turbo that is just right for the L series.

I'm interested in seeing how it turns out.

If you know where there is a turbo kit for an L series engine than you are a bettet surfer than I.  The only info I could find was a crown manufacturing kit and a cartech kit.  I believe they both used rajay turbos with draw through type configuration.  Unfortunately the both were discontinued in the late 70's or early 80's and now only end up on e-bay very rarely.  As far as the turbo goes it is off a 2.2 liter and has an ar of  .42.  I am expecting it to make boost to around 12-15 lbs and then fall off but theres no need to start out at 20+ psi white still tuning it.  Maybe by the time I have it tuned right I will have the $ for a bigger ball bearing turbo capable of getting me into the 20+ psi range.  Should be interesting.

well, I found information and bought some stuff but like I said before it was a "kit". Not really a kit but parts put together and it was mostly a flip of a coin if it all worked.

You need to contact people who have actually done the Turbo L to get good information on how to do it. Theres one guy in oregon I think who used to have a turbo L but switched to a VG30.

I hear from quite a few people that turboing a L isn't as great as it sounds. Issues with cost and tuning / power.

Dunno, I was going to do it and just gave up. Figured it was more work than it was worth. I'd rather turbo something that had more parts available.

If I find the guy's site I'll post it. He might have some info. If you are lucky you can find Info / parts on the Turbo Tom stuff.

I think the guy you are talking about is Jason Grey.  I read that website as well.  The problem with his setup was the same as all others.  It was a draw through system which limits the amount of boost you can run because you cant use an intercooler.  He was working on a water injection system but still was basic at best.  He also used a stock bottom end with cast pistons.  Heads and a motor will flow to a certain point on a n/a motor but those rules matter less in a forced induction motor.  You dont need as much lift of duration in your cam you just want the lobe center to be fairly wide to ensure good exhaust pressure.  As far as the power I wont venture a guess but again I am not going to be limited by a carberator, lack of intercooler, or cast pistons.  I will still be under what an SR20det would cost since i am making most of the parts.  So far I only have about $50 in materials for both the intake and exhaust.  Plus I will have a completely programmable ecu versus the stock ecu of a sr20.  My time is what i have the most invested in this project and thats cheap.  Either way it ought to be interesting and something i bet you wont see many off.

Yeah, my process was that I was going to have this one guy rebuild the engine for me and have it rebuilt to handle a turbo. I was going with a turbo L20b. It was going to run an intercooler but the specifics weren't 100% worked out.

I think the main problem is most people don't rebuild the engine to handle the turbo. They just sort of replace a few parts here and there and bolt it up.

Where did you get an ECU for an L series? You running fuel injection?
