Icehouse.... :) the exhaust is still going out back!

I still have to talk to the guy again. The first estimate today was almost $800. As long as I get over $650, I'll be fine. I do have the other, almost rust free shell. This damage is fixable, so we'll see. I need to go pull the bumper....ya, Bleach...I was surprised too!.....and try to get the trunk open...then go get another. I know the next one will be closer to $1000, which is more than the rig is worth....to others, not me! and I'd prefer not to have the rig totalled. I just want to wake the guy up! He offered me $150 on the scene! I wanted to b*tch slap him like he was a honda boy!! LOL...just kidding!!!

The impact bent my seat back and almost ripped the battery loose. One side came off. Happy joy!

It sounds like you survived almost intact...

Glad to hear you weren't seriously hurt...

Um...bullets go through fat quite easily!! :) Now if it hit me in the head....I'm pretty dense there!! lol

So I guess since I got $675 for the damages, that's how much it costs to give me a hard shot to the rear. I'm not cheap!! LOL

I even took it to his body guy. He looked at it the closest and came up with the $750, $75 of that was for the rear bumper(what I spent buying a used one) which I said I'd take off since I was replacing it anyway. The other quotes were $909 and $780. I'm planning on fixing it myself, so I guess I'm driving a free car since I only paid $650 for it. Won't be fun trying to fix it, but oh well.

Couple more pics of the real damage. Throw a bumper on it for now and you'd hardly notice it. Once I take the flasing piece off that filled the gap at the bumper, it shouldn't look too bad.

are those flashing pieces replaceable? It looks like if you could find another and button weld it back on, do a little hammering, and you'd be set.

I haven't looked myself, but the last body guy looked and said they were bolted on. I don't remember if my spare chassis has one on it or not. I'm thinking about "Foosing" the bumpers so I probably won't be putting it on anyway.

Glad to see that you and your car didnt suffer severe damage. I saw a red wagon recently in Seattle with a smacked rear, the hatch was toast.

You said you had a parts wagon I was wondering if you or anyone local in Seattle might have a filler neck they could spare to sell me?

top filler tube that the fuel cap goes to. (mounts with three screws to rear quarter panel.

my roomates wagon got hit similar to that, he got it fixed and the gasket doesn't quite seal on the hatch any more, witch create's a vacume and some exhaust come's in to the cabin. so you should leave it coming out the side just to be safe.

That piece in back (bumper fill panel) is bolted on- I went to look on my wagon and it isn't there, just 4-5 empty bolt holes.

Mike: Glad you're OK. It doesn't take much to break those seat backs, you should have seen what a 45MPH hit from an Explorer did to my '81's seats.

But your rear hatch is STILL in better shape than mine.

Jeff......ROFLMAO!!!!!!!
Anything to keep that pipe on the side!!??!!! That's too funny!!

How about I find out if I have a leak first....then I'll decide...I'll at least give you a fighting chance :)

Seriously....I hadn't considered that as a problem, so I will definitely check into it before switching the pipe. I think it pushed the door up just a bit, so I may need to change the hinges first. It's going to get driven like this for awhile....low on the list of things to do!!

aholic.... I looked at my spare shell...it's missing too...so I may just have to "Foose" the bumper! I think I cut up the one on the '68...who knows, maybe it's in a pile around here somewhere :) Wasn't too worried about the seat back, but I was thinking about putting it in the 521...oh well. It works okay and I pushed it back to where it should be. Maybe I'll get my prelude seats in there sometime :)

I gotta ask...how the heck did you find that part...and is it the correct one? I went to the site and tried to find it through their menus and couldn't even get close. There doesn't seem to be any info on that part for year/model...just "filler panel" That's pretty dang tempting if it's confirmed that it's exactly the right panel. I'd have it in case I decide not to mod the bumper.

Thanks for the info!!

If you have the 510 parts sheets you just type the Nissan part numbers into the search. You can also email or call them. They're just a Nissan dealership...with a good web site and good prices. These are the guys I purchases my J13 water pump parts from. A lot cheaper than the in town Nissan dealer that was reluctant to even look up the parts. Expect to wait a little for the parts to arrive.

I'm not sure if all the parts show or just the ones that are available. might be worth a call.

Well, I finally got the new tires for the 280ZX rims I've had for awhile. I went with these over the Iron Cross rims since everyone else(including my wife) prefers these. The 14" tires for the IC rims were going to be within $40 of these, so what the heck. I still haven't gotten around to getting the paint off two of them...so they're on the passenger side(somebody rattle canned them)...um...at least they were. These went on the car for one day, but the next day, I had four studded tires on the old 13" rims and they were put on. Oh well...too much threat of snow and ice and too far to drive everyday to worry about the weather and traction!
