Here is the progress so far (Chassis only...) (body to come later...) Sorry for all the Cr@* around it. That is the 1965 IHC Scout frame and springs. 1968 Chevy SM465 4 spd and Rockwell transfer case, 1977 Chevy 1/2t 4x4 axles w/ 235-75-25's for now, with 35x12.50x15's waiting in the shed till after the body is on. The Orange thing is the 305 Chevy V-8 that will be mounted infront of the 4spd. Gears are 3.73, so I should have enough power to move the Datsun, and yet with the 35's get decent mileage (2500 rpm @ 65mph!) Hopefully can get the chassis done this summer, and start with the mounting of the body this fall.... We will see what Uncle Sam and my wife have to say about that... Garry K |

Paccoast521, The hood strip is the only one i have, though i may get another soon, so i'll let you know. as for the cover for the drivers lock, i should be able to scare one of those up for you, as i have a few spare doors from l320's. the 1st picture is with the chevy axles mounted under the springs where the scout axles were mounted on top of the springs, so i already have a 3+" lift, and With the v-8, i should be able to mount the 320 body lower than i would have with the 250 I-6. that will still make the truck pretty tall. garry k |

Thanx Garry, if the cover itself comes off cool, if not ill need the whole door lock. No hurry, just 1 of those small pieces of the puzzle. Nice progress so far on your truck.

tdaaj, It used to be a 1947 Packard 4dr, that in the 50's was rear-ended and "totaled", but the owner hacked off the back, welded a 30's sedan rear behind the front seats, and then mounted a "hudson pick-up" bed on the back, and then re-mounted the packard rear fenders and a new rear bumper to the back end. Unfortunately my dad's friend that bought the truck/car over 20 years ago, and dropped it off at my dads property, never did anything with it but let it sit under the pine trees, and the rust has pretty much consummed the poor thing....frame...bed... cab.... Although the Packard flathead straight 8 is still complete and under the hood, though it is now stuck from sitting. THanks for all the comments, Last night I loaded up the remains of the 77 parts truck and the bad 350 crank and block to drop off at the scrap metal yard later today after work. Then I need to hurry up and get the engine re-done and mounted so I can roll the chassis into the back yard and go get the NL320 body that will be going on the chassis, and then using the L-320 parts to strech the nose to clear the V-8 without chopping up the firewall.... Lots to do with so little time... Garry K |

Well, I may not have to rebuild the 305, as I have just had an offer of the year given to me... THere is a co-worker that just bought a 1970 Chevy Nova from the original owner with a mere 45,000 miles on it. He wants to hot-rod it with a new crate 380hp 350ci. He wants the engine-bay detailed and painted. He said if I were to pull the 307 out, and clean and paint the engine-bay, I could have the complete running 307 V-8!!! For those not familiar with the 307, it is a 283 block, with 327 heads and a 327 crank. So basically it is a 327 with a smaller bore. The advantage of the 307/327 is that it is a very quick-reving motor due to the shorter stroke than the 350, so combined with a light vehicle, good gears, and a decent intake and exhaust, I get good power and mileage!! ANd the price is really good, And it will still bolt right into where the 250 I-6 was!!! So Again, if I can score this engine, my cost of the truck is still under $200 for the entire project to where I am now. Talk to you all later, Garry K |

thats a good score, btw my packard was turned into a truck too. roof cut off with an axe right above the windshield and converted to a flatbed truck. flat head 327? inline 8. wish i still had the rear end out of that thing. had a 45 degree angle on the pinion.

Well here is the latest shot of the Monster Datsun's chassis, with the 35" 12.50's mounted on the Chevy full size axles... And here it is in comparison to my Suburban! Hope you all like the progress! Garry K in Port Orchard, WA |

Well the 307 is in the garage on the engine stand, and getting cleaned up and a few fresh gaskets installed before I repaint the engine and get it in the cahssis. Also the Body Donor should be here this week to start lifting the NL320 body off the chassis and prepping it for install on the Monster Chassis! Can't wait!!! Catch you all later, Garry K |
