well since my question about the bits needed to make a 4x4, I found one and purchased it, probably paid too much but hey I am a sucker like that. I am the proud new owner of a beat up 76 4x4 620. pretty much original setup I beleive although it does have the l20b in it which I am not possitive when the factory swapped from the l18 to the l20. the 4 speed tranny is very sloppy though, my question is.... I have a 79 5spd or I have a fresh 4 speed, what would work better in the 4x4, I do not intend on using this as a driver just a toy so any input would be great.

Your truck came factory with the L20B, the L18 was last used in 74 I think.  I beleive the trans are interchangeable also and I would use the overdrive 5 speed if at all possible for better fuel mileage.

Go with the 5-speed. Sometimes you may want to drive a distance to get to a good offroading area.

You can use the 5-speed you have or any truck 5-speed (1977-80) or 280ZX 5-speed (1977-83) in your truck.

I know they never came that way but the coversion was done by low back in 76 and it has not been changed since than. if you are familiar with the 620 4x4 on I think it is wallys page I beleive that is not only similar to the one I bought but is that actuall one I got. anyway by still stock thats what I mean.....

Thanks for all the input.
