I'm guessing that one of you guys knows what the area in the green box is for. I figure either egr or smog pump connection. It's on an L18 of unknown year. Thanks!!

yes, EGR, as well as the PCV and several other large vacuum ports. The EGR actually attached to the part that went there.

That carb has everything backwards on it compared to a regular DGV Choke ,accel pump.

Thanks guys! I would have leaned toward the smog pump connection since the egr is usually on the exh man, but maybe the exh man on this eng is not the original. Maybe there was a pipe from it?

It belongs to another guy in my area. Either one is not absolutely necessary anyway so I told him to fab a plate and block it off or get another int man.

I noticed the carb too and at first I thought ugh....then I realized how much easier it would be to tune......then I realized that the throttle shaft has to turn opposite of normal which is probably why the accel cable is not connected.

He bought the 520(with no windshield) and a 521 with an L18 (5spd in the bed) off of craigslist awhile back and now he's looking to sell both for $500. In fact, they were put on the Portland craigslist again on the 29th?....if you want to check the ad. I really don't see me being able to get them, but if they're still around on the weekend, I'll probably go take a look. Our schedules don't allow anytime before then.

Thanks again guys!! Oh...I'll try to get some pics of the bearing adapter prototype posted soon. I'm planning on bringing a mockup to Canby so I can get some opinions from you guys.

That is a 1974 L18, that area you circled is for both the EGR and the PVC, looks exactly like my 710's L18 set up.  There is a plate that goes there that has the EGR valve on top, PCV valve on the back rear, and the pipe from the Manifold to the EGR valve connects there also.  Just block it off and put a fitting there to make the PCV work.

The intake is at least off a 74 up I should say, if theres no fitting on the rear of the exhaust manifold its an older L16 version.  Cant see it from the picture so you'll have to look at it in person.

The carb is a DFEV, not a DGEV. I have the same setup on my 4X4. Routing the throttle is a pain (I flipped the linkage upside-down, but you need a thick spacer or adaptor to clear the manifold that way)

Thanks! I hadn't thought about having to make a hole for the PCV!

He'll probably still have them come saturday...that's when I'll go look at them.
