bullet Topic: Wheel upgrade on the daily driver
    Posted: 30 April 2005 at 4:57pm
Some "New" wheels on the '81 510 wagon (my daily driver/commuter).

Old:

New:

Odman should recognize 'em. They're stock Nissan alloys from the same year/model car, though I need to find center caps for them. They are either cromed plastic with a "D" in the middle or black plastic (I'm pretty sure they were chromed though). The wheels are by no means perfect, plenty of curb rash but they look better from 50m. OK for the daily grind.

Those look a lot nicer than the hubcaps!!

Did they take standard coned lugnuts or the short mag ones like the 280's? I need to find lugnuts for my iron cross wheels.

Neither, they take the shank-type. They have a non-tapered shank that goes mostly through the wheel and a washer at the head. The holes in the wheels are straight bores. My "Iron Cross" wheels on the Z aren't shank-type, at least I don't THINK they are. I can't remember. I know all the rest of my mags and alloys are shank type (one set of slot mags, a set of 14" turbines for both the Z and the trucks, and a set of 13" mini turbines on my other 510 wagon). They're common enough that I can still get the lug nuts new.

Nicer than the caps? Absolutely. They also fill the wheel well better by having less offset (the stock steel wheels are darn near FWD offset, but that's normal for Datsuns). They also have wider tires; my gas mileage may suffer a bit but the skinny 165/80s that were on it (stock size) just look bad when you're used to having 175s or 185s.

my bad....by mag style, I meant the shank style. Knecht's has the shank style, but the shanks are too long(1/2"+) and bottom out before the washer hits. I have universal fit 10 hole rims on my wgn right now and the shank on those lugnuts are only about 1/8"...which I don't think is quite enough. I think the shank needs to be about 3/8"?? I haven't done a lot of checking yet, but from what I've read online, the dealer is the only place to get them.....I have a hard time believing that. Where'd you get yours.....I can start looking there.

Yes, that is better. What you need now is to slap on some Z-car aluminum wheels, lower the car about 3 inches and tint the windows. Then you'll be pimpin'

You KNOW how I feel about lowered trucks... Same applies to cars. Heck, I LIFTED the rear of the "Blue Beater" hatchback several years ago, maybe this summer when I paint it in arctic como (I'm serious, anything to camoflage the dents) I'll put the coil spacers back in.

The window tinting... Thinking about it. I need a new rear gate first, though. Looks OK closed but has rust holes on the inner edge. Looking for one that had the optional wiper.

Ya, not bad at all. Aside from lowering it, I think those 6-star wheels would look great on the 510 wagon. The tinting would also help keep it cool inside.

HAHA, Hey the wagon version of my SLAMMED 510 here's a link to my old cardomain page: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/509407

The car has been sold and now has some 17 inch chrome/gold rims, Air bags or hydarulics, white vinly top, tacky green spray paint job, huuge dual gold exhaust tips, gold chain steering wheel, some kind of hangy ball interior on the roof, and the little mexican guy I sodl it to loves it.

NOS is like a hot chic with an STD, you wanna hit it but you know the consequences
