I am now starting to tear into the 710 wagon. I am going to go ahead and do a rebuild on the L18 and at least rering and replace the bearings. Hope I don't have to replace pistons or do a rebore. While everythings out I will try to convert to a five speed if I ever find one. This will take a long time since I am basically doing this with no funds whatsoever. I have some stuff to at least get the engine back together once I get bearings and rings bought. I am thinking of putting the dual Weber 40 DCOE carbs on to but want to get a better cam before I do that. I do have a A87 peanut head I got from TDAAJ that I am going to use. Might have to match port the head to the intake since I think its got 1.5" ports, I'll worry about that later. I also will have to repair some rust on the left frame rail where the exaust runs by it coming off the manifold. Its the only rust on the whole car. I am going to cut it out and have a piece of metal welded back in while the engine is out.

good luck, and take it from someone who tried, don't cut corners. no stripped bolts, no putting it together out of order. other than that, pics.

I'll be craeful, I have rebuilt a few Toyota and Chevy engines and had a 302 Ford apart before to. Seems like this car will be easy as far as bolts go, none are rusted or seized so far, unlike cars from Iowa, lol. I can take pictures but can't post them here due to ignorance on how its done, lol.

Ok, got the engine torn down to the shortblock with no broken bolts. The cylinders are in good shape and I think I can just hone them and rering the pistons and go ahead and replace the gaskets, seals, and bearings while its apart. Theres still crosshatch markings in the cylinders to. I have pictures if anyone wants to post them for me, they are big and don't know how to resize them yet. The head gasket was about to blow in the front, it was all original to, never been apart. The gasket was starting to crumble apart all over, surprised it didn't blow a lot worse. The pan had some sludge in it but the rest of the engine was clean, I ran two gallons of deisal through it right before I took the engine out. That always cleans out an engine well.

If you do a search for a program called Paint Shop Pro...I've always used a free version....makes editing and resizing quite simple.
