hooked up the new carb (new to me), car starts but when you give it gas it chokes a bit, you really have to feather it gently so it doesnt choke on itself...any easy adjustment suggestions? pardon my newness and ignorance.

Is it belching black smoke out the tailpipe? If not it sounds like the accelerator pump isn't working. If there is black smoke, you may have a non opening choke or a plugged air mixture jet or a piece of dirt in the needle and seat that lets the fuel level go way too high. Spend about $30 on a rebuild kit and start with a clean carb that you know is good, they aren't hard to tear apart.

check the adjustment screw on the throttlw wheel side for the secondary, it's a small black screw on the base, it can keep the scondary constantly open, giving the engine all the symptoms of being tto rich.......

lets see if this makes sense....on the bottom end it chokes its self, once its past the first bit of acceleration its fine. backfires a if you get on it.

Above suggestionas are all correct. Also make sure the spring on the seconady is keeping it closed to it doesnt open prematurely with vaccum.
I would get the car warm so its running at idle. Adjust the idle MIXTURE. about 1.5 turns out from bottom. should be good start. Turn out till it runs rough then turn in till runs rough. pick the middle spot./ Your speed idle should be more than say 1.5 turns IN. I donrt know if you have a electric choke or manual. If electric maybe choke isnt set right But I would jam it open to isolate it down to that. Im wondering if the accelerator pump linkage is stuck in the in position. Where your gas is not squirting in from the action of pushing the pedal. You you cycle the linkage you should see a stream a gas shoot in to the barrel. Ck to see if the linkage is stuck in the IN position on the side of carb. Maybe accelerator gasket is bad. But be honest weber DGVs dont go bad that often time motor, ajust speed screw to disired RPM Next step buy NEW |

You can rebuild it, you have the technology. You can make it faster, stronger. |
