bullet Topic: Extra mirrors Ethan, wanna bolt em on?
    Posted: 27 September 2004 at 11:52pm

Who's Ethan?

Ok! So I dug through my Box 'o Stuff to Install on My Truck and dug up a pair of 2nd Gen Maxima power mirrors. They haven't been tested, but that doesn't matter. Even if the powe option doesn't work they'll work fine on the 620.

So I had the idea of how to mount them and I made this spiffy little triangular plate thing...

There are four mounting posts on the mirror that need to be cut off flush to allow the 620 door to work with it!

After the posts are cut low, there are still some bolt threads left to attach bolts to. So the project may continue.

Ok, so here's my replacement door I'll be putting on my truck. Its in a little bit better shape than the other one plus its already blue so... umm... its blue.

I took out the squeegie rail doohicky. This item will need to be cut a little short to fit because the mirror mounting plate uses one of the squeegie rail doohicky mounts.

Anyway, a few drilled holes, cut bolts, and after a few hours the mirror is on the door!

Yes, the window still rolls up without binding.  I think it looks slick! ..and the aerodynamic properties of it will probably make my truck faster on the driver's side.

I'll fix the rust holes and stuff later.... oh, and maybe hook up the wires for the mirror motor later... along with my power locks.

Ok, that's it! Maybe next week I'll put it on the truck.

The Ethan thing is from a burger king commercial that Ifound rather entertaining. And your mirror idea is slick. Good work, old chap.

ps, I did the calculations - with the maxima mirror vs. a stock big ugly truck mirror, you have decreased the 620's aerodynamic drag by approximately 79.5 percent. A coeffecient of 345. 98 ethans. nice!

that looks nice bleach. ya gonna paint them blue or stay black? my truck had mirrors from an '80s S-10 pickup on it when i got it. they look a lot like those but a bit smaller. i promptly knocked both of them off on branches out 4Xing. ya gots to have folding mirrors when you're going off road.

Those mirrors do fold in, but I'm not going to be doing any offroading... unless you consider my gravel driveway offroading.

I think I'll paint them blue when I paint the truck.

I put the door on my truck. It fits and the mirror works very well. Oh, and the lock works. My other lock was bad.

No pics!

Bleach, way to keep it in the family! It's cool to see different nissan/datsun parts interchanged... I say paint it blue to match.

Looks good! Do ya think 620 glass will fit a 521 door if I remove the wing windows? I don't really know where I'd go to have glass special cut for that, but I really want 1-piece windows since I'm not cutting the roof off & capping the doors anymore!

well, you asked a little too late. My 521 parts truck is gone so I can't compare the glass.

uhh.. the new fender is not on yet or even primered. I've been painting my house. Gotta finish that up real quick before the bad weather sets in. But its just about done. Plus, to put the fender on I have to pull the whole front grill and bumper off. I don't want to do work! I'm lazy....

i was wondering if a 521 wing window and glass would fit in my 620. i was looking in the old '72-'78 Haynes manual i have the other day. it shows the double truck stuff in there too. the exploded view of the door, window and regulator parts also showed a wing window option. i thought it was probly for the double truck or just 620's in other markets being as the Haynes books are from England. what do you guys think?

620 glass won't fit- too much curve. 521 windows are dead flat.

Earwig: just find the door from a South American or European 620! They have the little wing window. Those should be easy to locate!

from the look of the exploded view, i think that if i got a hold of the wing window and the the track that goes from top to bottom, i could just have the front part of my glass cut off. i don't know why i never noticed wing windows in pic of 620's in other markets before.
