new datsun to the family collection and am having a hard time finding any body parts for this beast, the only thing i need is a driver side fender cause it is rusted pretty bad at the front just above the headlight. Other then that this truck is mint no rust on frame or in floors or anywhere else except that fender, brand new hub caps and beauty rings, new datsun 1600 fender emblems, newer L20b motor, only 4 speed but i have a spare 5 speed to throw in it and it was $1000, do you guys think this was a good deal?

Oh and is there any way to squeeze a brake booster into the 521? cause the brakes sure are alot stiffer then the 620.

Pac I will definatley get the fender if you still have it. Will a 620 5 speed fit into the 521? or is the transmision shorter?

The only 5-speed that's the same length and the stock 521 tranny is the '77-79 200SX/510 Dogleg (well, 80-81 510 with a bias change). But you'd still need the '73 620 front driveshaft section since the 521 uses a flange and every other Datsun tranny uses a slide sleeve.

I have heard (no confirmation) that you can use the SWB '74-79 driveshaft front section to put a '77-80 truck 5-speed in.

In a king cab and a long box which part of the drive shaft is longer? the front part or the rear? as apposed to the single cab. just wondering cause i could try the drive shaft from my long bed or my king cab to see if that would work with the 5 speed.

Its the front part that varies in length.

All 620 driveshafts are the same length from the carrier bearing back to the axel.

It's not the same short, though. And a different output I believe.

the bellhousing is clocked a little for the Z series engine so it squishes the tranny mount to one side a bit. on the plus side, the starter is mounted higher so its easier to change. the output splines are the same but, in '85 i think they went to the bigger u-joints on the driveline. the shifter is also like 6" closer to the front. other than that it looks just like the long tail 4-speed that came in my '76.

Had the front fenders. But I dont know if its good quaility or not. Make take fender off and weld new metal from inside(by professional).

Lower that Truck!!!!!!!!!!!!Pathfinder wheels!
Paint the rear bumber Polish chrome, silver. Or maybe remove it and have some chick on the phone ram ya in the ass.

Great to see nice 521s still out there.

Madizm 620,
Ck to see if spacers under the endine mounts.
What I have been seeing is people raising the motor to keep the oil pan(521) from hitting the steering bar/arm.
Seems the L20 hangs abit lower causing it to rub.
I just want to know how much to raise it 1/4, 1/2in ? if I ever put a L20 in there.
PM me and tell me what you have!

As datsunaholic said the 521 uses a different output set up on the trans. The trans is same as a 510 5sp but the 510 uses a yoke set up. Anybody who has a 510 with a 5sp people should get it out and see hoe it was done. Cause the 521 could sure use a 5sp. A longer duration acam also!
