Does anyone know if the 80's, 510, side marker rubber is the same as the 70's 510. I saw one drive by today and it looked exactly the same? tomorrow I'll go to Nissan and order some to see.

Don't think so, but here's how you tell (since I don't have a PL510 for reference, but I do have a 521):

Does the side marker light screws hold the LENS or do they hold the chrome surround? On a 521 (and 620), the screws hold the LENS and the LENS holds the chrome plate in place (the chrome plate is under the lens plastic).

On a '78-81 510 the chrome plate is outside the plastic, and the screws mount to it and the chome surround holds the lens in place (though to be fair there are hole in the lens too). The lenses on the 620 and 521 are almost perfectly rectangular, the late 510 ones are 6-sided (each end is angled, and the top/bottom isn't parallel).

The late 510 ones are the same as 280Z ones, BTW.
