I know I am in the "Truck"section but anyway...

there is a guy that posted in the Dime Quarterly classified and thanks to Ryan in Seattle (the big jerk ) I called a guy on a 72 510. It has the L18 but does not have a intake or carb. Trans is locked up. So it does not run. He says the body is very straight. Has a roll cage and upgraded sway bars and suspension stuff.  He explained that the previous owner raced it. Any get to my point he wants 100-200 dollars for it. It is not far from my house I just need to find out a way to get it my house if I buy it. I am thinking engine swap. and go from there. I am going to go look at it tomorrow.My questions are:

1) should I even get it? 2) If I do get it, what enging trans swap should I do? 3) If anyone can stop me please do....H

  D.C.  i wish i could find a straihgt 510 for 200.00 bucks. And u get  a L18 w\it . Intakes  and trannys are prety easy to find , what do u want to use the car for????Is the car legal??? good luck

D.C., you should be able to find a good engine and tranny in Dimequartely classifieds.HA!  (I'm such a help)

pakal asks a good question, if it was used in races, make sure that it is streetable and straight!   Remember 510's have a higher value than 620's. So I'd say a few hundred is fair. Both swaybars would be worth a $100. Is the roll bar a 4 or 6 point? A 6 point may get old for daily use. Check for camber plates, brake upgrades, bumpers, dash, cluster tach, orange needle gauges, head casting numbers, seats quality, mags, tires, and RUST! I wouldn't expect much for $200, just things look for. Remember windshields are hard to come by (but they can be found) all seals are still available out of Nissan Japan (the quarter windows seals are NLA, -the ones that go around the glass, not the one that seal against the body)...I believe a locked diff is not a good idea for daily use.


Your asking Datsun owners if you should get another Datsun? Most Datsun owners have many, and many parts! The answer to your question will only be revealed when you see the Datsun.

DC, I looked at this car this summer (the one in Suwanee) and it's easily worth 200 bucks. If you don't know someone with a trailer, bolt your stepbumper back on and rent a tow dolly. You're only about 50 miles away, so take it easy (yea right on I85) and you should have no problems getting it home. Try pulling the driveshaft out and make sure this is the reason the rear end is locked. Even if you have to get a tow truck to haul it for you it's worth it.

620 madness so you looked at it huh? you think it is worth it. I have my 2001 silverado so towing it not a that big of a deal.

Yeah, if I wasn't in the process of relocating to NC, I'd have bought it just because of the price. Hell, stop by Sunbelt Performance and talk to Jim, he owns the place, he might know of someone thats interested in whatever you don't want off the car. Right next to Sunbelt is Balanced perormance , they might be interested in parts also. Hell, if you aren't interested in keeping the body, I might come down and buy it from you now that things have settled down some, you're only a 3 hour drive.

I don't know if I'd go to the trouble of turning it into a street car, but you could definately race it. Remember, it is a 4 door. If memory serves me right, the back doors are welded shut and door handles are gone. But I don't trust the memory on small details like that.

Yea, I can relate. The other half gives me the death look everytime I talk about buying this 620 Kingcab that's down by Road Atlanta. I don't know what the big deal is, I only have 6 of them now and I still have plenty of yard space.

actually talked to the guy today. he was cool about everything. He said that it was street legal and that everything worked. I plan to look at it this week. It would be cool to have it but not getting my hopes up.

Keep buying them!!! When you do come down maybe we can get a bite to eat. I can always chow down.
