bullet Topic: My custom motor mounts!
    Posted: 03 February 2004 at 7:49pm
Here are a few pics of my custom motor mounts i made for the KA 24e. I had to extend them so they reached the inner frame rails. It was a pain to make them but now they're done. Next step, finish the tranny mount. I have to make that also. If anybody is going to do this swap, i saved the patterns for the metal.

Here is another pic of the other mount. I made them out of 1/4 inch plate and they are very strong. I do have lots of pics & will post them often.

If you can scan the patterns into an image on your pc and include dimensions, I'll post them on my web site as a reference for everyone. I can give you credit for them of course....

Whould the same mounts possibly work for a 620?

Hey Bleach that sounds good to me. Give me a few days to scan them and post the info here. Mind you that i still had to do a bit of grinding once i welded them to make them fit good, but not alot. As far as them working for a 620, i don't see why not. I'm not sure if the 521 & 620 frames are similar in dimensions up front but i'll do some measuring on mine and let you know. It's like i say, anything is possible with a grinder! Here is a pic of the mount on the motor.

I do know that the KA24 does fit into a 720. And very nicely as well. There are a few small items to deal with, like PS resevior and if you want to run the FI, fuel delivery issues, but it's been done.

The 720 is nice that it has a somewhat larger engine bay than previous Datsun pickups. Like the '78-81 510, it was designed with the Z-series engine (and crossflow head with manifolds on both sides) in mind so there's room. Makes an L-series fit with lots of excess room (look under the hood of an '80 720, TONS of room). A Z24 or a KA really fills the space, though. Getting to things like the starter is a PITA.

Well i could have gone with the traditional L series motor but i wanted a little more power! I have the complete wiring harness, ecu, driveshaft, gas tank, ignition, pretty much everything i need. Theres tons more to do like mount the hardbody gas tank & run the gas lines, modify the drive shaft, & modify the center part of the cab floor. heres a pic of some of the trimming i had to do on the firewall. These r rough cuts & will clean them up later!

Heres a pic of when i finally got hte KA into place! It seems i left the patterns for the mounts out in the rain and they got ruined! But i can measure the actual mount when i pull the motor again. I plan to replace the core support otherwise i would not have bent it that far out!
