This is MY "Blue Beater":
![]() Complete with quilted sun visor (passenger side only), flannel blanket roofliner, and custom bodywork thanks to my Dad's method of teaching my sister how to park in the driveway. I parked it in April last year and let the registration lapse, can't recall why exactly now. ![]() That's the "Blue Beater Too". I never got a pic of it before it got creamed by an Exploder; the damage is all in the left rear so it isn't visable in this pic. That's not all, either, as my '74 620, my '76 620 KC, my '78 620 4X4, and my '83 720 are all blue as well. I have a habit of finding blue Datsuns. |

Oh, yeah, why they're projects.
The "Blue Beater" (the '78 Hatchback) was my first 5-speed Datsun. Always has been my favorite commute car, and it's the only car I've ever gotten a speeding ticket in or cleared 100MPH with. Alas time has not been kind and it's back to the condition I got it in (except the engine isn't melted). Maybe this summer I'll drag it out of it's rest. The "Blue Beater Too" is a parts car now. The engine is destined to become a Z20ET IF I ever get around to it. It still had a ton of oomph when I parked it after a strut tower failed (I continued to drive it after it was wrecked. New taillight and driveshaft, called it good. The front suspension lasted another 2 years after the hit). One of these days I need to disassemble the remains and haul the mangled shell out, but for now it's a source of parts. |
