Many of you have heard about my first Z car that I put lots of time and money into. I bought the '78 in 1984 and I still have it. I paid $3000 for it. It was a 1 owner car with only 60K on it. The downside was it had a aftermarket sunroof that never really fit right. It was a double flip up type and was a little to big for the roof. I also hit my helmet on the latch and broke it.

So one day while looking through a wrecking yard, my friend pointed out a nice straight roof panel. The man let me have it for $50 and they even cut it out of the car. I had them cut it at the fenders, because I wasn't sure how or where I was going to weld it.

Here's the car in the mid 90's Those are 15X8 three piece compomotive wheels with 225/50/15 Yokohama tires. Like my plate?

This is were the sunroof went

In the trailer going of to Guy's shop to get a transplant. I've changed the front bumper to an early style.

Guy made four templates that we attached to the upper corners of the roof, and mark transfer line to the new and the old roof. We cut at those lines with a sawz-all. Then we placed the new panel on and set the templates in place. We had to take a couple of small cuts to get it to all line up. Then we welded it in place.

I'll fill in the remaining areas with lead and grind it all down. On the inside I will TIG weld in a replacement panel.

I also replaced the tach with a MSD unit. Since the stock tach had the turn signal indicators in it I had to put two LEDs in the steering wheel surround.

And I replaced the stock gauges with these Autometer mechancial ones.

But alas it's been awhile since I've done anything to the old girl. I'm still trying to decide how to power it. Put the oringinal engine I built for it in with carbs, or FI? Turbo? V6? V8 (Infinity maybe?) I have all the suspension and brake components, and most of the interior pieces, and I'm pretty sure I'll paint it silver.

How about putting that 200hp L28 in there? That should be good enough. I usually go for fuel injection though and that car already has the system ready to go.

That engine was in here. I'm not super happy with carbs for everyday driving, so if I do decide to put it back in, I'll put the FI on. But not the stock unit, probably Megasquirt.

Aluminium SB chev. maybe one based on the world products block.

You could get 400 HP easy (500 if you try) and it wouldn't completely hose the balance of the car.
