I made some small progress. My body shop is the main holdup. The guy is slow. I think he may finish by spring though.

I took the nearly dead L20 out of the bay. He finished prepping the doors and asked me for the fenders and hood. I hope that's a good sign. He still has to do the radiator support (I got a replacement for my banged up one).

Suspension parts are coming in. Just got my Tokico's for the zx struts. My strut housings still need to be cleaned and have a collar welded one to transfer my coil-overs.

spent 6 hours straight with my mate the other day, fitting a Z series 5speed box in place of my stock 4speed and L20!
that was a LOT of mucking around to get it in!
the rubber is twisted something shocking too...lol
but it all goes now...and I can start saving money on gas ( I have a 4.6 rearend )

another mates 510 that we've been working on ( Z18ET ), has finally got all it's certification and regestration papers done so we took it for a bit of a cruise through town.

I've convinced a mate of mine ( helped me do the gearbox ) to buy a 510 off the guy with the Z18 to bring back from the dead next year. ( and we'll be flatting togeter too, so we'll have 2 510's parked in our shed

1984 Maxima: Replaced spark plug wires, and plugs; fuel lines and fuel filter, cap/rotor, belts, alternator, oil change, valve clearance, checked/replaced bulbs, replaced hood, hamered out dents in fender, replaced battery and calbes.

Still trying to figure out the wiper blade motor problem. I dont' know if the motor is bad or the wiring. The relays seem to work fine. gotta get this thing through emissions before it hits the road, but can't justify getting it on the road now if the wiper blades don't work at all.

1978 truck: Replaced rear springs from another truck; mixed kingcab and longbed springs plus 2 inch lowering block. Probably lowered 2.5 maybe 3 inches total in back.
Threw in a ghetto radio/tape deck. Tape player doesn't work at all. Radio cuts out. What a waste of time, but I'm not ready to put in the CD player right now though.

Well there is a guy in renton(highlands w /a yellow 510),Named Taylor or Dennis
He called asking how to wire the coil.
I said what did you do. He said he removed the engine to rebuild. I said you dont have to remove the coil wires except the main one to the dist and the wire to the points. How hard can this be?
I guess very. I told him I would come over and do it. I said make sure about timing the oil pump ,prime it ect....

Well he sounded very confident(like you knew everything already)
Well I said how hard can this be to put one point wire on and do the plug wires but here is where most mistakes happen.
The oil pump is off,the dist pedastal from another dist and wrong plug wire position. This can be the only things if it ran befor and its timed for TDC on crank and cam!!!!!!!
But mister expert said hes coil is now weak and firing on one cylinder. Maybe wired ballast into the HOT start !!!!!!!!!!
Now this is why he is rebuilding his motor or it was working ok before the rebuild. So I havent seen a coil go bad from Before and after a motor change. S0 I think its a assembly issue.

I gave him my # again and see if his pride will get in the way. I told him Ill have it running in an hr.

He also said the springs in the dist exploded. But i said mine did to but shoul still rotate enought to fire the plugs unless it sears the teeth on the dist shaft. There cant be that much resistance.

So we will see. He said he is frustrated. If he was smart and took advantage of free help it would be done.
He gets one more chance.

I have been working on my car again. It's been a while so I though I should take care of a few of the things that have been bugging me about the car.

I'll try to remember to post some pictures soon

In the last couple of months I have:

Replaced the trans with a 280ZX trans (shortened the driveline etc)

Replaced the trim around the grill and the taillights

installed euro turn signals

had the rear seat and door panels upholstered

Installed new corbeau forza 2 front seats

replaced the carpet

installed a new dash pad

Installed a griffin radiator and new (2nd) electric Spal fan

Welded up a new alt bracket and installed a new GM alt

changed to a gear reduction starter

got now tires (Yokohama es100)

recarpeted my trunk and installed a new system

Replaced the battery cable to my trunk mounted batt with monster cable

repainted my rollbar to match the car color

replaced the trim around the door opening (the black knock on)

Coming soon

Installing my Electromotive ignition (finally)

Coil overs and camber plates

tokiko adjustables all around

bump steer spacers

Later,

Tim

Tore out my interior, been putting peel and seal (the cheaper dynomat) in the doors and floor. Leaking coolant onto the floor, think I might need a heater core or something. Already installed an oil guage, but then went back and bought the triple set, water and amps. Should install those while Im down in there.

Well, changed all the plugs, wires, rotor and cap. Also tried to get it to run better (idles rough) by adjusting the carb and timing. It's a little better, but seems to be to rich still. Put on seat covers and floor mats. Ordered new carpets, and gave my canopy to Datsunaholic.

That was just yesterday..

Yes, the flairs and the air dam look nice, where did you get the air dam?

Is the center console on the roof going in the car? What is it out of?

1984 Maxima: Cleaned outside and interrior. First test fit of 1997 Civic bucket seats. The front lines up perfect, but needs a shim on one side. The rear is close and a couple small L brackets should bolt it in without any holes drilled in the floor.

The airdam is from the 70's, a flexdam, I'm not sure if the originals are still made but it looks like a guy on ebay is reproducing them.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38658&item=2441756969

The car was put together in the very early 80's. I was told the center console was brought back from Japan when the builder was stationed there, and that it was a Japan only 510 console, not sure. It has a metal base and is very sturdy.

Bleach your carz are blinding... why don't you have that Maxi beater in that profile?

What do you mean by blinding?

I made the drawings from an actual picture. I don't have a front profile picture of the Maxima, and I'm waiting on getting a new battery for my digital cam. Too much time playing around and working on the Datsun to go to WalMart!

I'll get a cartoon of the beater soon...

Did you all see the 620 chop top on eBay this week?

The colors..you know, eye piercing, sharp, loud...every time I see it one of my contacts pop out.

Is that going to be your wife car? or will you drive it and let her drive the Z?

The Maxima will be for my wife. Right now she uses the Z as her daily driver. The Z has some problems, so she wants the Maxima as soon as she can have it. plus she is tired of breaking her back getting our 2 yr old in and out of the little back seat. Its a 2+2.

I tried to make the colors deep so they wouldn't be so loud! My first mockup of the Z looked kinda bright pink! Both contacts would pop out with that one. Turn the brightness down on your monitor just a little.

I am getting ready to put in my Subaru LSD and I am rebuilding my weber sidedrafts.  I also am also still collecting parts to swap over to an EFI setup.  After I get my LSD in and finished, I will be putting on my rear disks and putting in my 300zx master cylinder.

The next step down the road after that will be saving my money for a SR swap.  I wanted to run the RB26DETT, but I have decided I don't want to invest that much time and money into it.  The SR will be more than quick enough for me.
